Compare and Contrast

Prime Minister Stephen Harper [Canada.com, Manning named to federal advisory panel]:

The Conservative government Friday named Reform party founder Preston Manning to a group which advises the federal government on the public policy implications of new scientific research.
President Barack Obama [CTV, Obama nominates UBC professor for science position]:

A University of British Columbia physics professor has been nominated for a position in President Barack Obama's White House.

The U.S. president nominated Prof. Carl Wieman as his associate director of science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Wieman won the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics for the creation of a new form of matter.

Updated: I should note that Professor Wieman must be approved by the Senate before taking his post. Mr. Manning just had to say, "Sure, I love that word SCIENNNCE."
