Reader Poll - iPhone vs Blackberry

I've put a poll up on the right hand sidebar for you folks to help me choose between an iPhone and a Blackberry. If there's something better, vote for "Other" and comment on it here.

I'm hoping to have it before Vancouver.

Cheers.

You'll hear "Blackberry, Blackberry, Blackberry" - until you TRY the iPhone. It's more than a phone - it's a "nanoMac"... (I think I just coined that term). What CAN'T you do on this thing? The new OS upgrade this Spring will make it the ultimate business tool.

If you want to use it for blogging, it is amazing. I have an app called "Blogpress", which allows me to blog on multiple sites - all through one portal. I used to have my laptop in my lap, as I watched TV in the evenings, and in bed... Now, it's iPhone all the way. I can watch TV on it (the screen is fantastic), and I can watch v-podcasts, etc., etc. The fact that it IS also an iPod, makes it that much better.

The screen is the real seller though. It is a masterpiece. Oh... and if you're into games, the iPhone is competing with the Nintendo thing for top ranking in the games world. Thousands of people are developing apps for it. The phone use is pretty cool too. I migrated over from Palm, so I have some experience with touch screens, however, THIS one is far more accurate and advanced. The proximity sensors work really well, as well as the built-in "gyro" doohickey... thingy.. that allows you to use it spatially...

What are you using it for? If you are mainly using it for business, then I'd say Blackberry. But if you are using it for entertainment, then I'd say iPhone. I didn't vote, because I don't know what you will be using it for.

iPhone. Totally, iPhone.

WesternGrit is right, it is a thing of beauty. And since I'm a developer, I know a lot of cool features coming out for iPhone 3.0 this summer.

Definitely the one to get.

Hey Mike... I just downloaded the sdk a few weeks ago... How do you like it so far? This phone is certainly more unlimited than a Blackberry.

Also depends which Blackberry. The bold is nice (but, again, you're limited with software vs. iPhone), the non-qwerty one is pretty much for kids - you're better off getting a Nokia. Speaking of Nokias, they're pretty good, and they make a great smartphone. Unfortunately you'll need to buy it "unlocked" on eBay, and most of the features won't work on Canadian providers...

iPhone is the most "modifiable/growable" of the bunch. With a seemingly endless amount of apps available, you can't go wrong. It will also do everything a crackberry will (and more, with the 3.0 OS in Spring)...

Go to http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/index.htm for some good info on many different models of cell phones and smart phones. Also look at CNet.com for reviews (note that Cnet reviews are often biased by manufacturers)...

iPhone.... iPhone... iPhone (I'm a developer too - was - and this little deck is just amazing...)

Note that any "average" reviews of the iPhone criticize the missing MMS and a couple of other little features - which will be in the 3.0 release coming soon...

I need it for both business and entertainment (that sounds weird...).

I appreciate the feedback, everyone.

How is typing on the iPhone vs the Blackberry?

WesternGrit said...

I've used both. I'd say that the Blackberry gives you more tactile response (of course, since they are "real" buttons), but you get used to the touch screen very easily. It was my only fear going to the iPhone, but the sideways touchscreen is big enough for my thick thumbs, and the adaptive text thing really picks out the right words all the time. Like I said, it was my worst fear, but now I'm typing on it faster than with any other machine I've used... I don't work for Apple either...

I post a lot of responses to LiBlogs with it, use if for my personal email, and blog directly from it (so that would give you a good idea of how much I've gotten used to typing on it - the touchscreen)...

Most people will probably tell to use what they have, you need a sample of people that use both. And it does depend on what you use it for.

I have a BB curve, I've played for a limited time with an iPhone. For me, the BB is best for what I need it for: e-mail, phone, note-taking, light web surfing. If you'll be doing lots of typing I'd recommend a BB (not the storm tho), I find the typing easier. And I love the push e-mail.

If your needs are more web browsing, watching video, listening to MP3s, you're probably better off with the iPhone. I think it's better for multimedia, it's a bigger and more attractive display than the BB.

That'd be my two cents.

IPHONE!!!

But don't buy one right now. Wait 'til June cause that's when they usually roll out the new iphone. Some people have a problem with the iphone not having a tactile keyboard. And from someone who have been using iphone for 2 years, let me tell you that I really miss the tactile keyboard. However, there are rumors that apple will be putting keyboards on the iphone soon. So I advise you not to buy it until they release the new one.

here's the buyer's guide:
