For instance, I didn't know the thing lasts for 6 months.
I also didn't know that Expo 2005 just concluded in Aichi, Japan. That's some bad advertising.
Expo 2015 Toronto Consultation
Once every five years a city gets the opportunity to step onto the world stage and become a focal point of international attention and achievement. In 2015, that city could be Toronto.Should Toronto bid for Expo 2015?
Early in 2006, Toronto City Council will decide whether to submit a bid to host a World Expo in 2015.
World Expos bring together the nations of the world to explore issues of shared significance, while showcasing their ingenuity, culture, innovation, achievements, excellence and leadership.
Hosting a World Expo differs significantly from playing host to a major international sporting event like the Olympics. The modern Olympic Games is a short duration, media- driven event. By contrast, a World Expo lasts for six months, is directly experienced by millions of visitors and results in large-scale infrastructure, social, and cultural legacies, as well as growth in tourism and increased tax revenues.
A significant improvement of a city’s transportation infrastructure is often a legacy of a World Expo. There are also important cultural and educational benefits – providing the opportunity to collaborate on innovative projects of global significance.
Creating an Expo that leaves a valuable legacy requires planning and foresight. Expo Corp and the City of Toronto want your input on what it takes to create an Expo that will serve Toronto.
