Today's Word of the Day - Abseil

ab·seil
intr.v. ab·seiled, ab·seil·ing, ab·seiled
-- to rappel.

I got a BBC breaking news alert that said:

French special forces in the Corsican port of Bastia abseiling from helicopters have recaptured a cargo ship seized by striking workers.
Why didn't they just say rappelling?
